Evaluation Planning 3 & 4

3. What have you learned from your Audience feedback?

This is my audience profile. (who i aimed my products at)

These are some screen grabs, evidence of feedback.

I thought about doing stop motion to start my music video. However i gave myself some thought and feedback on the idea and decided not to, i didn't think it fitted with the action within the music video. I also asked my family and friends whether i should include it or not and they agreed that it wouldn't go well. The friends feedback was reliable because they are at the ages between my target audience.

From receiving constructive feedback i chose to change the whole concept of my first music video idea. Reason for this is that the action and narrative storyline was not going along with the music and not working.

4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Blogger to post my posts online viewable by anyone with Internet access.
Used YouTube to find inspiration of current real music videos.

TubeChop was used to cut down certain YouTube videos if i wanted to post a certain section or element onto my blog.

Facebook was used to advertise my music video and get feedback.

I used microsoft word to produce word documents and then put them onto the blog.

Twitter was used to make a band profile and get the music video noticed online.

Google allowed me to research current media.

Those above are the websites and social networks i have used.
I will also take photos of technology i have used to produce my 3 products.

Evaulation Planning 1 & 2

Evaluation 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and coventions of real media products?

Bloc party- so here we are (influence of camera angles and action)
I copied the camera angle throughout the bloc party video onto my music video, however they would have used professional equipment to keep the camera steady whereas I used a tripod and made each person hold it.

Example album cover influenced me to do the multiple pictures on the cover.

Change of plan -
My change of plan indicating the elements I wanted to use in my music video.

I chose this song because at the time I was listening to this song non-stop.  This worked against me because I did not think of too much of it at the time, however when into my research I would of changed the song and possibly the genre to match a video I would of liked to make.

Evaluation 2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

On my album cover i copied the convention of having many images of the main character (myself) reason for this is because in my music video i have many different faces appearing and i thought that the album on to the right would be a good fit because its similar in the way of one person but with the use of many props and clothing gives of the sense of many attributes/faces to a person.

Digipak idea

This is my Front and back cover of my planned digipak.

Music Video Update (22/11/10)

As the music video deadline is coming close and fairly fast. (This Friday) i am starting to get worried about finishing it in time.
With the feedback i got i had to re-think my locations and actors and the narrative (give it a narrative). So today i started re-filming, and because of the addition of more people in the music video it took a little longer than i hoped, which is bad. In addition, the natural sky light is rising later and setting sooner, so i have no day light time other than school time, so i can only film at lunch times now. So i am starting to worry i wont get it done in time.

Also with all my exams but media in january, i should start revising which is getting in the way. Also having other subject deadlines, it makes my life harder. so my conclusion is that i am going to do media in my other lessons this week and make up for thsoe lessons next week.

Todays work (22/11/10)

Today i finished planning and annotating my design for my Album cover and back, i feel it is very simple and affective, and fits with the style of my music video. I feel it continues the style of my music video because in my music video the camera is focused above shoulder height most of the time and on the face, which i am carrying over to the album cover where i shall have pictures of me above my shoulders, in different clothing and props placed neatly over the front cover, similar to a window.
I shall hold up print outs of letters of my artist's name to go on the front of the album.
On the back of the album i shall have around eleven songs which will be placed top left of the page. Towards the bottom right of the page i shall have some more picture frames of me scattered so the style from the front continues towards the back.

(I shall post a picture up soon)

Draft Music Video Feedback

Currently at Level 2 (16/40)

-Rushed
-Works fairly well - set ups are effective
-Mise en scene poor
-lip syncing needs work
-more cast
-more locations
-Better than 1st attempt

From my feedback from my teacher i am able to understand my weak areas. I welcome the constructive criticism as i want the best grade possible for my music video, so i have made notes and will continue to film soon.

Poster Research

This is a Poster for Kanye West's most recent Single 'Runaway'
This poster is a still image taken from his 35 minute music video called 'Runaway' i shall add a little snippet from the video including this poster..

Here are some Kid Cudi posters which are simple but allows the viewer to see who the artist is and feel close to them.

As i am going with an 'Example -wont go quietly' look, with the window like images, i may decide to do a similar effect with the poster.

Digipak Research

A Simple fold digipak. The colours and the 'spilt coffee' look which is also used on the CD keeps the theme throughout the digipak.

For my digipak i would keep the theme throughout to make it look more professional.

This is a album cover and theme i may go throughout my digipak, reason being, in my music video i used many people with camera angles just catching their shoulders and above, so i think this would fit in if i took the characters, took a picture on a white background and put them on the front, and then have the picture of the main character (myself) in the middle of the shot, slightly bigger.

I shall draw up a draft of my ideas and analyse them, i shall put them on my blog soon.

My New Media Progress Today (03.11.10)

My Filming and Editing of music video so far. Black areas through the video is going to filmed and edited tomorrow.

New Location shots

Reason i picked these locations;  fairly derelict, leafs and tress add to the setting and they are realistic within the action.

Camera Practice

This is practice for myself for when i have to film myself walking and trying to keep the camera fairly steady and in the right frame setting. Personally i feel it has been a successful effort.

How i did it?
All i did was extend two legs of a tripod and hold the tripod with those two legs, i would also have the camera tilted towards me in the right position. Their is a slight delay between pressing record and the action because i need time to press record and get into position.

Project Update (02/11/10)

With a new narrative and filming. Tonight i did some filming and here is my progress.

Four shirts i will be using in my music video.
My Practice with Stop Motion using shoes.
(For some reason when uploaded to YouTube the quality went to not so good)

I am considering using the Stop Motion as a intro and a outro to my music video where no audio is included, however i will see how the filming and editing goes as i may not use it at all.

I will edit what i have filmed in tomorrows Media lessons and also film the majority of my music video. So far i have four people willing to help me, including me makes five.

Stop Motion?

My Very Quick attempt at stop motion and the idea i would use it for in my music video.

Change of plan

At the last minute for my draft, i have decided to change my plan of music video. After discussions with my media teachers we came up with a suitable idea that suits the music of my choice, which is continuing to be 'Pursuit of Happiness by Kid cudi'.
I am currently practicing with a camera from school, elements i am /may use in my music video.
One of the elements i am definitely going to use is where the camera is focused on the head of the character and the character is moving with the background changing and the character still looking the same.

In addition, I am considering using stop motion for a very small amount of my music video, just at the start. During the stop motion the movement is very little, so stop motion will play a tiny part in the start of the music video which makes it simple to do.

My Idea for my Music Video:
- Stop motion of shoes walking on their own towards the bed. (only a few feet/steps)
- Cut scene, character waking up and getting up.
- Cut Scene, Character then puts on shoes.
- cut Scene, Stop motion of character trying 3 pairs of shirts.
- Cut scene then leading to the camera being on the face at all times. (number of faces/character close ups (walking))
- Character walks out of house and then cut scene to walking and lip syncing, each shot only being a few seconds (2-5) depending on part of the song.

I would like to end the music video where it started with the main character getting back into bed and then end the music video with a fade out.

Number of characters and locations being used. For example, all characters one locations then all characters again with a different background location but same costume.

Will post practice with camera as soon as i get a chance at school.
Hope to do filming during break, period three and lunch tomorrow (3rd November 2010) and i also have a free day to film and hopefully edit on the 4th Novemeber.

Guideline

This is a video just for a guideline of what still needs to be done, Evidence of what i have done so far with editing. I decided to do this because it will be the easiest way to explain to my actor on what needs improving and what bits need doing.

The Goods/The Bads

This post is to identify the goods and  the bad's of filming the music video.

The Goods
  • Wasn't over time consuming.
  • Stuck to schedule
  • Most of the props went well
  • Representation went exactly how i wanted it to.
  • Camera angles worked well
The Bad's
  • Weather became an issue
  • Actor played up a bit.
  • Some Equipment played up. (Tripod)
One of my locations (The Crop Field) the first week i filmed it was there the second week it had gone so i had to improvise and re-shoot in a different field.

Album Art Research

Some Pictures of Album Art i like.

The Album art i have researched above all are fairly simple, which i believe is very affective on the eye. A over the top, image piled album art/digipak is too much for the eye and is unnecessary.
Kanye West's album artwork is out of this world, i wish i could present a masterpiece such as his, however i do not have the resources or artistic value to put together something like them, however, The Fray's album is simple and affective and i am drawn to it, if it is in a pile of albums. In addition, Taio Cruz's 'Break your heart' is simple and yet i feel i can pull that off with my character from my music video, so i am leaning more towards the bottom half of the album art research when it comes to getting ideas for my own album art.
